Position Summary:
Performs skilled journey level mechanic work in the maintenance and repair of automotive, light, and medium duty transit/paratransit, and heavy transit bus and related equipment. Diagnose malfunctions and complete repairs regarding mechanical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic problems in the shop or in the field as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Inspects vehicles for proper operation of lighting, emergency doors, hydraulic lifts and other moving parts; identifies equipment problems and makes adjustments and repairs as required
  • Diagnoses equipment failures and malfunctions of fuel, electrical, hydraulic, air, and mechanical systems, drive trains and differentials; repairs and replaces parts and components
  • Maintains and services vehicles in accordance with established schedules and intervals
  • Responds to emergency road calls and makes repairs if possible

Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the job. A typical way to meet this requirement would be:

  • Vocational training in vehicle maintenance and repair
  • 2 years of journey-level experience as a diesel fleet mechanic which includes the repair and maintenance of medium to heavy duty trucks or buses
  • Valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Salary and Benefits

  • Hiring Wage; $24.54 hourly

Work Schedule

  • Training schedule: Monday-Friday, 10:00AM-7:00PM.
  • Regular schedule: Saturday-Tuesday, 8:00AM-7:00PM.
