The Health & Life Sciences Content Transformation & Analytics division of Elsevier is seeking a Knowledge Representation Specialist to play a key role in knowledge representation and Ontology development. Under the direction of the Knowledge Representation Manager, she/he will develop and maintain Elsevier Merged Medical Taxonomy (EMMeT). The Knowledge Representation Specialist, will be responsible for enhancing EMMeT to improve its application in search and discovery products such as ClinicalKey, provide support for Knowledge Graph (H-Graph) and clinical decision support products. She/he will work with a team of other Knowledge Representation Specialists in health and life sciences, data scientists, as well as product leads to determine how to best build and leverage semantic capabilities. Key Responsibilities? Develop, update, and maintain Elsevier Merged Medical Taxonomy (EMMeT) to best support Elsevier's clinical product roadmap. ? Adapt domain ontologies for information extraction, data modeling and analysis. ? Perform and maintain mappings to core vocabularies such as ICD-10, SNOMED-CT, and LOINC. ? Enhance EMMeT to enable high quality automated indexing for search & discovery, mainly by extending its coverage, or improving its precision, through activities including but not limited to integration of a new vocabulary, of new mappings, clean-up projects, re-organization of a branch, etc.? Apply own domain knowledge and work with external clinical experts to confirm and validate clinical accuracy of EMMeT as both a taxonomy and ontology to ensure that content is clinically accurate, current, and supported by the best available evidence from the medical literature, current guidelines, and accepted performance standards.? Along with other KRS, develop and maintain editorial policy standards. Active participation with EMMeT team to prioritize editorial demands.? Propose enhancements to EMMeT based on product roadmap, indexing QA, and user feedback.? .Provide support for data science activities such as automated extraction of facts from textual sources and automatic question generation. Assist in adapting EMMeT to bebeter support data science projects.? Knowledge of ontology modeling is beneficial and experience with TopBraid is a plus? Use language proficiency to assist in translation of our content and EMMeT ontology to local languages in European and Latin American markets
Education, Skills, & Experience? Advanced Biological Sciences or Clinical degree required (e.g, PhD, MD, or PharmD)? Preference give to those with formal training or significant experience in evidence-based medicine, biomedical research, epidemiology and biostatistics? Experience in semantic technologies, including text mining, ontology management required? Excellent command of the English language in both spoken and written forms.? Language proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or French is highly desirable ? Experience with medical vocabularies such as SNOMED CT and ICD-10 is beneficial, as is knowledge of ontology modeling.? High computer skill competency. Proficiency in a Microsoft Windows environment; and strong MS Word skills and ability to work with templates using an electronic content management system.?
