The Health and Life Sciences Content Transformation & Analytics division of Elsevier is seeking a Knowledge Representation Manager to play a key role in supporting business units. Under the direction of the VP Content Transformation & Analytics the KR Manager is responsible for owning all knowledge representation activities and further developing health taxonomies across the department. He/she will manage a team of internal clinical and language knowledge representation specialists (KRS) to ensure quality and medical validity of the EMMeT (Elsevier Medical Merged Taxonomy). In addition, the KR Manager will engage with key stakeholders and Clinical Analytics Manager to align taxonomy with Product, Technology, and Customer priorities. The KR Manager will work in cross functional teams for modernizing current tools and workflows for knowledge representation and graph development and identify potential POC's and pilots to demonstrate innovative applications. He/she will provide thoughtful guidance for semantic enrichment of Elsevier products and find opportunities for self and team for enrichment.
Guide development and enrichment of health taxonomies (EMMeT)
Align EMMeT development to enable consistency, efficiency, and product alignment across the portfolio.
Manage a team of Knowledge Representation specialists to develop, maintain and update EMMeT
Manage cross functional teams for modernizing current tools and workflows for knowledge representation and graph development
Inform the development of a clinical ontology architecture to support H-graph development and clinical decision support (CDS)
Engage with business partners and Clinical Analytics Manager to align taxonomy development with content transformation and product needs and develop KPIs to reflect that
Work with Data Science, Digital Content, Technology, and Product teams to improve automation and bring efficiencies in taxonomy development; contributing to existing initiatives and identifying new opportunities
Serve as technical lead on Knowledge Refinery project guiding data engineers and domain specialists for modernization of ontology management workflows
Run regular standup meetings with team, delegating responsibilities and evaluating team performance continuously
Run and modify various scripts to perform gap analysis and bulk upload of files into production to meet product demands
Oversee and participate in ontology QA activities in English and other local languages such as French or Spanish
Support ontology QA activities (to include English and French or Spanish)
Ensure that timely deadlines and product needs are met concerning taxonomy development.
Provide thought leadership and ensure professional growth and career development of team members
Guide semantic enrichment of Health Markets products and stay up-to-date by attending conferences and workshops
Travel domestically and internationally to support content transformation activities in North America and EMEA/LAAP markets
The KR Manager will have a strong technology and linguistics background and will be capable of applying automation methods to representations of terminologies and knowledge. He/she will be a fast learner and self-motivated and must be able to guide others to enhance collaboration across the team. The KR Manager will require strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with key internal and external constituents. This candidate will be collaborative and results-oriented, able to thrive in a matrixed organization.
Understanding and experience with established and emerging informatics standards: Medical terminologies, taxonomies, and ontologies: SNOMED-CT, ICD-9/ICD-10, LOINC, RxNorm, UMLS, CPT, NDC, Gold Standard, CVX required
Proficiency in use of SQL scripting and programming for relational database queries with deep technical knowledge of front and back end systems in taxonomy editors
Working knowledge of French or Spanish with prior QA experience in one of the local languages
Experience with requirements gathering for upgrading taxonomy editors and interfacing with knowledge graphs
Ability to lead technical teams comprising of data engineers, technologists, and domain specialists
Manage strategic planning to tactical activities for projects; ensure comprehensiveness and quality of content transformation products; collaborate with medical experts to ensure medical validity and relevancy of projects
Knowledgeable of future trends with a desire to remain educated on industry direction and emerging technologies.
Superior presentation skills using MS PowerPoint and proficiency in MS Word, & Excel.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities coupled with the flexibility to quickly adapt to ever changing business needs.
Domestic and international travel required.

The application of clinical ontologies to support CDS tools and products.
Extensive experience with standard medical vocabularies and crosswalks including ICD, SNOMED, MeSH, UMLS, etc.;
Established network within the semantics technology community; Fully knowledgeable of the product development process
