We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Editor to work on Oxford Research Encyclopedias of Economics and International Studies. This individual will manage a list of article-based digital and print reference titles in the above disciplines. The right candidate will ensure quality and timely publishing through the careful management of the content-development process. The Assistant Editor will work closely with editors in chief, editorial boards, authors, and internal colleagues, including commissioning editors, production editors, and marketing managers. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

* Working with OUP commissioning editors, editors in chief, and editorial boards to create and execute publishing plans for digital and print titles;
* Establishing, maintaining, and frequently updating project files and records;
* Recruiting authors to write for our projects based on internal and external recommendations from editors;
* Corresponding with authors and editors to ensure timely delivery of quality articles;
* Providing a basic review and edit of articles and other textual and media content to ensure quality;
* Overseeing the peer-review process for articles, which includes commissioning reviewers and trafficking comments back to authors and board members;
* Recruiting new editorial board members as needed, based on recommendations from internal and external editors;
* Reviewing and correcting content XML as needed;
* Handing over final peer-reviewed articles and supporting materials to the production team, and working closely with colleagues in production to ensure smooth and on-schedule publication;
* Coordinating with marketing and sales teams on promoting and selling titles;
* Editing and coding HTML-based homepages and related content;
* Providing general administrative support as needed.

Requirements

* At least one year of experience in publishing, preferably academic publishing, or comparable experience;
* Four-year degree;
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing;
* Detail-oriented, efficient, and organized work style;
* Time management skills and proven ability to meet deadlines;
* Team leadership experience and ability to work with colleagues across various departments;
* Demonstrated comfort working and corresponding with senior-level academics and other specialized authors;
* Experience creating and commissioning content for print or online publications;
* Strong research and writing skills;
* Skilled with databases and spreadsheets, eager to solve problems, and resourceful.

Preferred:

* Experience managing multi-faceted publishing projects and an interest in digital publishing.
* Advanced degree in the humanities a plus.
