Job Description

The Electrical Estimator and Steel Estimator is responsible to predict the costs for electrical or steel fabrication construction projects by conducting a detailed analysis of the contract documents, structure and specifications, to determine overall project requirements and identifies any and all associated risk factors.

Responsibilities:

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and enter into computer estimating system.
  • Request quotes from suppliers for equipment and materials.
  • Identify qualified suppliers and subcontractors for quotes.
  • Review quotes for completeness with plans and specifications
  • Recognize and capture all project costs necessary for the completion of the project.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all takeoffs and costs analysis for project estimates.
  • Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates.
  • Coordinate proposal delivery.
  • Complete proposal costs for distribution and review.
  • Follow up post project bid submittal for status of quote.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Related,Construction Management, or an equivalent of related field experience.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience estimating industrial construction projects, preferably in heavy industrial electrical and/pr steel construction.
  • Experience in Electrical or Steel Takeoff software
  • Experience in CAD or 3D software
  • Advanced knowledge of the Electrical and Steel Construction discipline.
  • Standards: NEC, NFPA, CBC, UL, and ISA, as related to design and documentation
  • Classifications: Area classification requirements as related to approved construction methods
  • Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
  • Applications: Proficient in computer software including MS Office Suite & Bluebeam
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, one-lines, P&ID s and engineered design drawings
  • Ability to identify and meet customers needs, expectations and requirements
  • Ability to understand and follow standard Company procedures.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of specific variables in situations
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, resources and changing priorities as necessary
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude
  • Effective oral and technical writing communication skills as required for the position
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, management, field personnel, vendors and clients.
  • Must be a self-motivated team player able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Able to lead and coordinate between inter-company departments and disciplines.
