Overview Performs specialized MRI procedures on patients, resulting in diagnostic images for interpretation by a radiologist. Also provides the patient care essential to these procedures. Applies principles of MR safety.

Education: Successful completion of an accredited Radiography program. Licensure: Experience: Certifications: A.R.R.T. registered or registry eligible upon hire, and A.R.R.T. achieved within six months of employment. Must obtain advanced A.R.R.T. registry in MRI within 1 year of hire date. Responsibilities Safety/Risk Management
A. Locates & properly operates oxygen, suction, blood pressure & other essential patient care equipment. B. Consistently observes patients before, during & after procedures. Makes & uses appropriate immobilization devices. C. Appropriately transfers patients to/from stretchers, wheelchair's & on/off procedure table, giving care to IV lines & other appliances d. Safely operates all equipment & immediately reports malfunctions. Locates all emergency switches. Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures & MRI safety for both staff and patientsE e. Assures that all data entered/ retrieved from physician??????????? s orders and/or computer system is accurate. Verifies accuracy prior to procedure.
Coordination of Services
A. Reviews orders for diagnosis & prescriptions. Appropriately schedules patient & department resources for services. B. Performs all procedures according to protocol stated in procedure manual, unless directed otherwise by radiologist/physician. Presents completed procedure to radiologist/ physician for interpretation.
C. Collaborates with staff members & physicians to assure delivery of optimal patient care at all times. Demonstrates ability to revise department schedule & staff assignments to meet patient & physician needs & maintain a smooth functioning department with limited rooms & equipment. D. Assumes responsibility for portions of quality improvement program. Understands all phases. Keeps all documentation current & available. Follows through with any problem areas. E. Assists in department orientation program as needed; assumes responsibility of training new staff. Assists staff members in keeping orientation program up to date. Contributes to development of educational needs, supervision and evaluation of radiology students. F. Evaluates diagnostic procedure for appropriateness, takes corrective measures if needed. Screens for previous procedures.
A. Performs MR scans including routine, emergency and special procedures, on both High and Low Field MR systems. Assists with special exams. Positions and immobilizes patients. Determines appropriate pulse sequences, reconstructs, reformats and archives images. Performs appropriate venipuncture for proper administration of contrast media. B. Evaluates and prepares requisitions for examinations. Obtains appropriate clinical history, screens patients for MR compatibility and documents information. Finds and pulls appropriate comparison examinations. Schedules examinations and instructs patients/nurses on appropriate prep. Instructs patients in exam procedure. C. Demonstrates ability to perform exams on NICU, ICU, SNF, and ER patients. (Including trauma patients.) d. Provides clinical supervision for students and new MR technologists. May provide didactic instruction for students.
A. Greets patients by name; introduces self; provides patients with thorough explanation of procedures, efficiently performs procedure. Uses good judgment with add-on cases to meet patient needs and department needs without disrupting schedule.
B. Understands safe & proper machine operation. Knows machine emergency procedures and MRI Magnet Safety procedures. Reviews as needed or at least yearly. C. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing diagnostic images with the ability to recognize technical abnormalities. Selects the appropriate coil/scan parameters for each procedure. D. Prepares & stocks rooms for various exams; checks equipment between patients; orders supplies as needed. Cleans room and equipment between patients, including patient waiting area. E. Effectively alters routine procedures when patient condition indicates - making appropriate changes on requisitions. Completes all tech entry data in a timely fashion. Submits charge sheets when indicated. F. Assists in the transportation of patients, specimens, films, etc. Processes films. Able to troubleshoot and correct basic Thermal Laser Camera malfunctions. G. Works fair share of on-call & weekends. Willing to adjust personal schedule in case of fluctuations in workload or departmental need. Displays flexibility by willingly working in any area or changing scheduled work hours. H. Maintains alignment with PTO policy. Arrives at scheduled time. Is flexible during peak hours.
a. Routinely questions patient/family members before a procedure to obtain pertinent patient history. Always screens patients for any contra-indications to MRI scanning. Always questions female patients regarding pregnancy or nursing. b. Monitors equipment operation & alerts appropriate personnel of any problems in a timely manner. c. Keeps manager informed of any issues, problems or situations requiring attention or follow up. d. Recognizes the need to assist other staff members during the busy times throughout the day. Asks what needs to be done & readily volunteers in other areas including office, scheduling, etc. e. Shares all relevant information at end of shift. Reports both verbally & written when both are possible. f. Assures all communications regarding patient care are timely & appropriate. Recognizes patient crises & initiates appropriate measures.
a. Understands applications and effectively uses hospital & department computer systems. b. Enters, saves, prints and retrieves information from systems; uses barcodes to improve efficiency and accuracy. Ensures that all procedure charges are properly entered/revised in system and/or submitted to appropriate person throughout shift. c. Performs equipment quality control testing as required, i.e. Daily QA checks or post Preventative Maintenance follow up. d. Keeps abreast of new technology. Accepts responsibility for keeping informed of current department practices. Documents mandatory Continuing Education Credits and complies with Advanced Level ARRT Certification. e. Initiates appropriate downtime procedures when necessary. f. Complete initial and annual competencies.
