Position Summary

The Director of Quality and Safety will lead organization-wide efforts to improve clinical quality, patient safety, infection prevention, patient experience, regulatory compliance, and external quality reporting.

Working closely with the organizations senior leadership team, the Director of Quality and Safety will coordinate and lead organization-wide efforts to: ensure that the quality of clinical care meets evidence-based guidelines and best practices, improve systems of care delivery to eliminate preventable harm, organize infection prevention and control activities, measure and improve patient experience, ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, support internal and external performance measurement and reporting, appropriately handle patient complaints and grievances, and foster a culture of continuous performance improvement across the organization.

The Director of Quality and Safety will supervise a team of qualified professionals responsible for helping the organization achieve quality and safety related annual goals and objectives. Other responsibilities include: providing analysis and input for strategic planning and goal setting related to quality and safety, serving as a subject matter expert and resource for managers and staff, and coordinating local efforts with MaineHealth system-wide initiatives and projects.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelors Degree in a health related field required, Masters degree preferred.
  • Registered Nurse license preferred
  • At least 5 years working in a health care delivery organization required, with a minimum of 2 years in a primarily administrative or management role
  • Experience working in one of the following areas required: Quality Management, Performance Improvement, Patient Safety, Regulatory Compliance, or Clinical Leadership
  • Familiarity with clinical quality measurement and reporting required
  • Familiarity with patient safety reporting software required
  • Experience working in a hospital or integrated health system required
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and clinical decision support required
  • Experience working in a complex, highly matrixed organization preferred
  • A proven track record of motivating others to improve clinical quality and patient safety
  • Experience leading, managing, and working with teams across multiple locations preferred
