JOB TITLE: HVAC Technician IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervisor of Facilities GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs intermediate skilled work in the HVAC field to include repairs, modification, and installation for multiple types of heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment in the school buildings as required. This is medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the work is subject to inside and outside environmental condition, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs preventative maintenance, repairs, and installation of multiple types of heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment; Experience with large scale HVAC equipment; Experience with building automation control systems; Serve as lead for other trades as assigned; Knowledge of plumbing and electrical repairs preferred; Designs small projects, estimates material needs and purchases materials; Assists other trades as necessary; Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology of the mechanical or building trades to which assigned; Thorough knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials; Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with assigned trade; Skill in the use of tools and equipment; Ability to draw and work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications; Ability to follow and issue oral and written instructions; Ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs; Performs related tasks as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience as a skilled tradesperson. Must have appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. HVAC trades license preferred, but not required.
