The primary function of this position is to utilize leadership skills to develop and manage a professional driver base to achieve specific company goals. These goals include meeting pick-up and delivery requirements, maximizing division profitability and other established company goals, retaining drivers, and maintaining an excellent service record.
Responsibilities include the following: Receive load assignments from managers and review to ensure that such driver work assignments can be facilitated within terms or expectations. Look to drivers to cover assignments and commitments. Dispatch loads to drivers using dispatch software to issue load confirmations, key loading instructions, and any other customer specific instructions. Call customers to obtain directions information and schedule loading/delivery appointments, as necessary. Notify department managers or Customer Service Department of issues/changes that might impact customer expectations or affect dispatches. Safety is paramount so the ability to mandate this throughout all areas of operations, including the dispatching of loads in accordance with the drivers hours of availability. Focus on driver retention by understanding carrier's and driver s needs when matched with company requirements/preferences, through key company metrics, and by keeping customers and drivers informed. Work with department managers to resolve driver conflicts, problems, and requests with respect to matters such as driver compensation, load assignments, accessorial requests, etc...
