Job Summary

The Wolfe Labortatory is seeking a full-time Research Associate II

The Wolfe laboratory is investigating gene vector and stem cell approaches to treat inherited neurological diseases. The studies are directed towards improvements in gene replacement strategies in the brain and cell replacement strategies in the retina. The studies encompass vertically integrated experiments in animal disease models from vector development, through treatment and assessment of live animals, to post-mortem analyses.

The work includes a myriad of functions to coordinate studies; manage the organization and archiving of data generated by projects; management of reagents, plasmids, cells and vector stocks; maintain and manage lab equipment; oversee management of several mouse breeding colonies; oversee regulatory compliance; as well as perform and troubleshoot assays as needed.

Useful experience would include: digital imaging and microscopy; organization of laboratory reagents; maintenance and repair of small equipment and electronics; experience with a variety of cell and molecular biology assays; and post-mortem histologic and molecular analysis of tissues, especially brain.

Preferred applicant will have:

1) MS with 5-7 years with scientifically relevant experience preferred OR

2) BS with 10+ years with scientifically relevant experience preferred

3) Authorship on scientific publications preferred

Additional Technical Requirements

1) 2-4 yrs. laboratory direction / management experience.

2) 1-3 years staff management experience preferred

3) 2-4 years of rodent handling experience preferred

Job Responsibilities

The Research Associate II is responsible for overall laboratory operations including daily workflow, quality control, management and guidance of staff and planning.

1) Proficiency in use of a wide variety of lab techniques, research equipment, and research related software, including: molecular biology, cell culture, nucleic acid and protein methods; digital microscopy and data acquisition; various data analytics.

2) Plan projects, perform and direct daily laboratory work, analyze results.

3) In conjunction with Principal Investigator, modify methods and protocols.

4) Provide operational guidance over the laboratory and staff.

5) Ensure staff adherence to department/institute policies regarding procedures, objectives, safety, etc.

6) Oversee management of daily laboratory resource allocations.

7) Supervise junior technical staff.

8) Contribute to writing and data display for scientific papers.

9) Maintenance of laboratory databases for reagents, frozen stocks, electronic files.

10) Supervision of research rodent colony.

11) Participate in equipment acquisition decisions.

12) Assist in preparation of data for scientific publications and grant applications

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations


Required Education and Experience

* Terminal degree (MD, PhD, DVM), 1or more years Post-Doctoral fellowship experience
* Master's degree, 3-5 years of scientifically relevant experience required
* Bachelor's degree, 7+ years of scientifically relevant experience required
