Assist with the implementation of the Hospital s annual government affairs agenda at the local, state and federal levels of government. Help gather background information for distribution to and to prepare for meetings with zoning offices, community-based organizations, government officials, and trade associations. Monitor the status of responses to issues that have the potential to impact the Hospital. Perform supporting administrative tasks, such as assisting with disclosure forms and government applications. Occasional travel required as job responsibilities will cover issues affecting the CHOP Care Network, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Washington, DC.
1. Help support the development and execution of the Hospital s government affairs agenda for operations in the City of Philadelphia, the other counties in which the Hospital has operations, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey in collaboration with the Manager of State and Local Affairs, the Manager of Federal Affairs, and the Director of Government Affairs.
Monitor legislation that has the potential to impact Hospital operations.
Assist with correspondence with legislators and regulators.
Prepare summaries of legislation and pertinent government activities for review and assessment by Hospital leadership.
Research information for and prepare fact sheets regarding Hospital data, programs, policies and initiatives. Gather information to assist in the preparation of talking points, testimony, and letters in support of the Hospital s positions.
Assist with government applications and forms.
2. Promote the Hospital and its position as a thought leader in healthcare and an advocate for public health.
Research and report on facts surrounding advocacy proposals to assist with the creation of an advocacy plan supports the intuition s mission and sound public health practices.
Assist with management of the Government Affairs social media account, creating timely posts which reflect current advocacy activities, promote the department s priorities and raise awareness of key issues; collaborate with the Public Relations department to enhance Hospital-wide information and messaging.
3. Strategic and tactical planning
Participate in the implementation of tactical plans to carry out the annual objectives of the department.
Assist with the development of specific action plans to address ad hoc and impromptu governmental and civic opportunities and issues.
5. All other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Required Education: Bachelor s Degree
Required Experience: At least two (2) years of experience in government, political campaigns and/or lobbying experience in or on behalf of federal, state or local executive and/or legislative branch officials or healthcare interests.
Additional Technical Requirements
An ideal candidate will demonstrate some familiarity with the healthcare delivery system and the related bureaucratic agencies affecting health policy; knowledge of federal, state and local legislative processes; research background preferred; interest in politics; ability to relate to and work with healthcare professionals and representatives of the community as well as public and private entities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Knowledge and use of social media platforms preferred.
