The BP Alaska Central Power Station (CPS) and Greater Point McIntyre Area (GPMA) Facilities generate and supply all electrical power to the Prudhoe Bay Unit oil field. Power is generated at 13.8KV then stepped up to 69KV for transmission to system substations at various oil production facilities. The Central Power Station operates much of the year in arctic conditions as low as -50 degrees F ambient.
The Central Power Station presently has a job opening for the position of T&D / CPS & EOA Generation Electrical Technician. The successful candidate must be a licensed journeyman electrician and be able to obtain a State of Alaska Certificate of Fitness as an Electrician Journeyman within six months. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate strong safety awareness, work commitment, competency and enthusiasm in achieving Central Power Station Team targets. The successful candidate is expected to cross-train as a Transmission and Distribution Lineman as well as a Standby Power Plant Operator, which may include duties such as:
+ Operating and maintaining eight (8) Standby generators comprised of gas turbines and diesel reciprocating units operating at voltages to 4.16KV
+ Operation of man lifts and other heavy equipment requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
+ Rigging, Line Repairs and Maintenance
+ Perform Preventative and Electrical Maintenance for both CPS and EOA Power Plants
+ Perform and assist operations with Electrical Isolations
T&D / CPS & EOA Generation Electrical Technicians operate and maintain the 69KV transmission system and associated substations throughout the Prudhoe Bay field. This position works with a team of T&D Technicians that have outside, inside, metering and relay experience. The T&D team works closely with Central Power Station, GPMA teams to coordinate proper operation and maintenance of the 69KV Transmission system in addition to 13.8KV / 4.16Kv Distribution systems.

**Default hours (time profile):**
+ General working knowledge of electrical systems associated with GE Frame 5 Gas Turbines, Solar Turbines, and Diesel Generators.
+ Ability to troubleshoot and maintain various control systems associated with GE Frame 5 Turbines, Solar Turbines, and Diesel Generators.
+ Learn and thoroughly understand the Central Power Stations 69KV transmission and 13.8/ 4.16KV distribution systems for NSE
+ Maintenance and development of skills and competency, knowledge and understanding of controls, basic relay operation and trouble shooting skills are required
+ Commitment to promoting a strong culture of safety, teamwork and performance Provide safe and efficient response for all T&D work, particularly critical repairs and emergencies.
+ Safely operate and properly use all T&D vehicles, equipment and tools.
+ Read, understand and comply with all Company and Departmental policies and procedures
+ Participate in the development, writing and review of required procedures
+ Able and willing to work in a multiple craft environment in a conducive manner toward building and maintaining effective and mutual trusting working relationships
+ Communicate and cooperate effectively with co-workers, operators, managers and other teams throughout NSU HV/MV substation and transmission/distribution experience is required in this multi-skilled team
+ Journeyman Electrician license
+ High School Diploma or equivalent
**Desirable criteria and qualifications:**
+ Working in an industrial or military facility
+ Power plant operations, generation with associated equipment, excitation systems, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low/medium voltage switchgears
+ Servicing and testing of dry type and oil-filled power transformers
+ Operation of standby generators, including parallel operations
+ Experience with oil and gas circuit breakers in medium voltage range Knowledge and use of electrical testing equipment
+ Experience isolating, terminating and splicing medium voltage power cables Experience of performing work on resistance grounded distribution systems Current NFPA 70E Training
+ Work experience in electrical utilities in arctic conditions and oil field environments is desirable

**Other Requirements (eg Travel, Location):**
Must be willing and able to work a rotational 2 week on/2 week off position on the North Slope (Prudhoe Bay, Alaska). BP provides flights between Prudhoe Bay and Anchorage/Fairbanks only. Rotational employees are responsible for their flights to/from the Alaska hubs if residing outside AK.
