SUMMARY The Technical Documentation Specialist II (Writer) creates written and video-based help and documentation (Help) for our mechanical simulation software. The Writer works with development engineers and other writers to describe the software functions, theory, and usage guidelines for a technical, international audience. We use a structured authoring system, made up of commercial and in-house tools, to create our Help under the governance of a corporate quality system. The Writer works simultaneously on multiple projects, in a fast-paced environment with regular deadlines. RESPONSIBILITIES Anticipate the difficulties the user community will have understanding and effectively using new features of our software. Craft solutions to address those difficulties. Take highly technical information provided by developers and transform it into understandable, concise Help for the end-user. Extract and gather information needed to produce effective Help for software features by interviewing internal staff, using our mechanical software products and features, and researching existing literature. Take ownership of and drive the complete Help production process, including information gathering, draft production, draft revisions, technical and editorial reviews, and final proofing. Produce short videos. Video production can involve scripting, video capture, voice-over, and video editing tasks. Work comfortably with a variety of software tools, including version control systems, structured authoring systems, project tracking software, video production software, graphics editing packages, video conferencing, etc. Work under the pressure of competing priorities, approaching deadlines, changing feature designs, and missing or incomplete specifications. Assist in designing new ways of presenting Help as our products and user personas evolve. Apply principles of effective information transfer to multiple formats such as video tutorials, topic-based online help systems, interactive learning systems, etc. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, or equivalent experience Four years of experience in technical writing, technical documentation, engineering software documentation, or engineering software Help systems Demonstrated ability to represent the user's perspective in the production of product Help Demonstrated ability to analyze highly technical information, distill the concepts important to an end-user, and present those concepts in a concise, easy to understand style Proficiency in the English language with excellent written communication skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with ANSYS software Experience with finite element techniques, computational fluid dynamics, or simulation technologies Bachelor's or Master's degree in the mechanical, structural, aeronautical, or a similar stress analysis engineering field Experience in production of short product demonstration videos Ability and experience in technical drawing CULTURE AND VALUES Culture and values are incredibly important to ANSYS.
