The UW Women's Center is a catalyst for change. We disrupt cycles of oppression and break down gender-based barriers through transformational education programs, leadership development, and support for girls and women. We believe women's rights are human rights. The Alene Moris National Education for Women's (NEW) Leadership program is designed to bring together undergraduate and graduate women from across the political spectrum to discuss the roles of women in leadership positions. Through a six-day intensive institute and a vibrant alumnae network, the program gives women the skills to participate effectively in their community, the training to become leaders across public and private sectors, and the opportunity to develop a strong and supportive network. NEW Leadership exposes participants to new ideas and opportunities and sharpens their professional skills as they consider their future careers. As part of a national program developed by the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University, NEW Leadership aims to encourage college women in Washington State to participate in their communities and close the gender gap in leadership. NEW Leadership's work complements the national effort to address the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions while also focusing on local opportunities for leadership. NEW Leadership is dedicated to reflecting our diverse community in Washington State, as well as the many leadership pathways our participants can pursue. Participants are undergraduate and graduate women representing a wide range of socioeconomic, ethnic, racial and educational backgrounds and academic majors. This position does not displace staff at the UW Women's Center. This position is contingent on funding.
