Position Summary:

AdvanSix is a global leader in providing customers with high-performance specialty materials, including fluorine products; specialty films and additives; advanced fibers and composites; intermediates; specialty chemicals; electronic materials and chemicals; and technologies and materials for petroleum refining.

The AdvanSix Frankford facility is located in Northeast Philadelphia and is one of North America's largest producers of phenol, which is sold to customers around the world. This phenol is also shipped to our Hopewell, Virginia, site, where it is used to make caprolactam, the primary feedstock in the production of nylon polymer, which is used in carpet fibers, plastics and films. The Frankford plant also produces other chemical intermediates, including acetone and alpha-methylstyrene, which are used in a variety of applications including solvents, resins and plastics.

The First Line Supervisor is responsible for leading and directing the Frankford Plant's workforce in the safe operation of the Frankford Chemical Plant. The position directly reports to the Plant's Operations Leader and is responsible for key plant metrics in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity and Cost

Responsibilities:

* Lead and direct the plant workforce in problem identification, problem solving, and implementing continuous improvement measures

* Engage team leaders and employees to improve department/area processes and performance

* Manage overall performance of all process equipment (adherence to standard work, attendance, safety, code of conduct, etc.) to achieve expected standards in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity and Cost

* Interview, select, and train team leaders and employees

* Create a work environment conducive to employee morale and motivate team members to accomplish performance objectives

* Manage employee performance including setting/adjusting pay rates, rewarding/recognizing, and disciplining

* Provide daily communication with team leaders, other shifts, and peers regarding safety, quality, productivity, staffing, equipment, continuous improvement activities

* Make decisions on issues related to productivity

* Act as first point of contact for team leaders and employees in escalating process of problems/concerns and participate in the escalation process as appropriate

* Communicate Advancing Together (operating system) principles to employees to improve their understanding and execution

* Conduct employee performance appraisals, both formally and informally

* Drive the creation and improvement of standardized work

* Audit team leaders' standardized work to ensure adherence to standard processes and procedures

* Make departmental decisions around waiving or deviating established procedures, considering any and all safety, environmental, or operational protocols and requirements

* Responsible for conducting training for and auditing of standardized work

* Establish and share best-in-class manufacturing processes

* Responsible for leading and executing the 5S activities to maintain the area to standard

* Drive a continuous improvement culture by instilling Plan, Do, Check, Act methodology

* Accountable to identify opportunities for improvement and continually seek to eliminate waste

* Evaluate, address, and support employee suggestions and ideas for continuous improvement

* Practice rapid-problem solving processes to ensure corrective action at the appropriate level

* Responsible for the safe and proper management and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with plant requirements

* Participate in site health, environmental, PSM and safety activities

* Perform work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (cold, hot, humid, rain, snow, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:

* High School Diploma or GED

* 5 years of operations experience in an industrial environment.

* 3+ years of supervisory experience

Additional Qualifications:

* Associates or Bachelors in a technical field preferred

* Experience working in a 24/7 operation preferred

* Knowledge of and experience working in chemical process operations preferred

* Experience leading a unionized environment preferred

* Strong commitment to safety

* Computer proficiency in systems like SAP/RF, Kronos, and Microsoft Office

* Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

* Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude

* Demonstrated leadership skills

* Demonstrated ability to motivate others to achieve safety and productivity goals

* Demonstrated conflict resolution skills

* Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
